Australia's Sustainable House Day

• WELCOME - see you then and there . . .

On Sunday 17 May anyone in Australia may visit a sustainable house near where they live or work.

That’s Australia’s Sustainable House Day.

KEY POINTS:

  • Anyone may visit a sustainable house or houses on the national Australia Sustainable House Day on 17 May after first booking and paying $15 to the organisers on that website: https://sustainablehouseday.com/open-homes/

  • Anyone may visit my sustainable house on that day, too, by booking on that website;

  • Tours are also available of my house which are offered from time to time throughout the year by first booking on my website: https://www.sustainablehouse.com.au/general-tours

It’s easy to find houses near you across Australia on 17 May  – click this link here.

You’re very welcome to take a one hour tour of my house on 17 May. I’m giving three 1 hour tours of my house in Chippendale, Sydney, NSW.  It takes an hour to see the energy, water, recycled water and food systems.  See my house listed for tours on the national site here.

This year, the house has been offgrid for 30 years - no water, sewage or stormwater has left the house and there are no fixed or usage charges for water or sewage. The house was disconnected from gas and electricity in 2015 when batteries became more affordable.

If you wish, you can buy my house and/or food books on a tour.

My passion is keeping rain where it falls, growing food and composting in our streets (especially when life gives you lemons) and I’ll show you why and how we do that in Chippendale.  You’ll see how, for a one-off cost of $200 over 15 years ago, each year we keep over 4 million litres of rain to freely irrigate our footpath plants, trees and gardens. We use free gravity to direct the rain down to the roots of the plants and trees, and to prevent stormwater polluting Sydney harbour and the Pacific ocean.

A neighbour will also be at the tours to show their family’s electric car outside my house, and to explain how they top up the car batteries from the sun for free using their house’s solar and battery system.

If you can’t make the tour of my house on 17 May you’re welcome to book a tour of my house on the days offered from time to time here: https://www.sustainablehouse.com.au/general-tours. For example, there is a tour next Saturday 25 April.

Go the sun and rain - thank you; and respect and gratitude to you, the generous, beautiful being we call ‘Earth’.
